Step-by-step DIY: Distressed Jeans

Distressed jeans are my current obsession lately because they are so cute and are perfect for those lazy Spring/Summer days. You can wear distressed jeans with anything from your fave flip flops to an awesome pair of pumps! Another great thing about them is that you can make your own! You can make them super hobo status or with a tear here and there. There are many awesome video tutorials on YouTube (ahem! #laurdiy) but I wanted to create a written tutorial for those of you who benefit from written instructions.

  • You will need a pair of jeans, some tweezers, and scissors. Cosmetic scissors (like nose hair scissors) work best but if you don't have any, you can use regular office scissors.

  • Pinch whichever part of the pant you want to distress (here I pinched the far right side of the jeans along the thigh area)
  • Then you will snip the fabric and cut across as far as you'd like

  • You're going to repeat the process below the line you just cut and end up with two slits parallel to each other

  • Next comes the tedious part. You are going to pull the horizontal parts of the seams out until your entire slit is is free of them! *this may take a while so turn on your favorite show or movie to make the time go by faster*
  • Continue making as many slits in your pants until they are distressed enough for your liking

  • After they are nice and ripped up, throw them in the washer to make the sharp edges fluff up and soften!
Happy crafting!

OOTD: Volcom & Express

Today's #OOTD features a flirty and summery dress from Volcom and my favorite faux-leather peep-toe booties from Express. I don't know the exact name of the dress because I bought it at Sea World over spring break after getting soaked on one of the rides. The good news is that a lot of Volcom's dresses are on sale for under $40 on their website and shipping is free on all orders! I paired this dress with my holy grail $12 kimono from Walmart and a fabulous floppy hat from Aldo. I paid $22 for mine but Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe has some for under $15.

I bought the shoes on the Express website for $40 and I absolutely love them! They seriously go with EVERYTHING and I always get compliments when I wear them. The heel is a thick wedge that makes them super easy and comfortable to walk in. The only negative thing about them is that the heel may be too high for some people but its all really a matter of preference. Other than that, these shoes are definitely a wardrobe necessity.
